Day 11 at Indian Wells produced the final nobody had pencilled in at the start of the fortnight.
Daniil Medvedev delivered his sharpest performance in a long time to end Carlos Alcaraz’s unbeaten start to 2026, denying the World No.1 in straight sets with a mix of first-strike aggression, huge second-serve numbers, and clutch serving when the match threatened to swing.
Earlier, Jannik Sinner was simply too clean for Alexander Zverev, extending his recent stranglehold in the matchup to book his first Indian Wells final with another composed, high-precision display.
Now it’s Medvedev vs Sinner for the title; two elite hard-court operators, both arriving with momentum and a history of interesting match-ups.

Match Recap

(11) Daniil Medvedev def. (1) Carlos Alcaraz 6-3, 7-6(3)
Medvedev produced a vintage masterclass to snap Alcaraz’s 16-match winning streak (titles at AO and Doha) and hand the 22-year-old Spaniard his first loss of 2026.
In a 1-hour-37-minute battle under searing heat, Medvedev controlled with aggressive shotmaking, strong second-serve play (74% points won), and composure under pressure. He converted both break points created and saved four of five against him.
Down an early break in set two and facing two set points at 4-5, Medvedev served aggressively to force Alcaraz errors and deny any comeback.
This was Medvedev’s first win over Alcaraz since the 2023 US Open semis, and to be honest, I didn’t see it coming.
A year ago, Meddy looked like a shot fighter that could no longer hang with the best, and I didn’t really see him coming back as he’d played in that vein of form for an extended period. However, somehow he’s got right back in the mix.
“Playing someone like Carlos… you need to be at your best,” Medvedev said. “I was hanging in… super happy to beat someone as strong as him.”
Medvedev extended his set streak to 18 (since Dubai) and leads the Tour with 18 wins in 2026.

Highlights
(2) Jannik Sinner def. (4) Alexander Zverev 6-2, 6-4
Sinner dominated in 83 minutes to reach his maiden Indian Wells final. He extended his H2H dominance over Zverev to 7-4 (six straight wins) with razor-sharp all-court play: 83% first-serve points won, eight aces, 18 winners, and just 13 unforced errors.
Zverev started confidently (winning his first eight service points) but faded as Sinner’s deep returns and precision broke through.
Sinner broke in games five and seven of set one (dropping just four points on serve) and again at 4-3 in set two to seal it.
“It’s a great achievement… the first time here in the final,” Sinner said. “I served very well at important moments.” He mixed return positions effectively against Zverev’s serve and reached his sixth Masters 1000 final in his last seven appearances.
Zverev, who completed the set of semis at all nine Masters 1000s, struggled to counter Sinner’s consistency, and he needs to be way more aggressive on the first ball after his serve.
Sinner is pedal to the metal on his first shot, whereas Sascha is way more conservative to ‘start a rally’ and he pays big time for it.
