As expected, sophomore Cole Hutson, following the same career trajectory as brother Lane Hutson, has signed a three-year entry level contract with the Washington Capitals. The deal will carry an average annual value of $975,000, but with Hutson poised to make his NHL debut on Wednesday, he’ll be able to burn off the first year during the current league season.
This season Hutson led the Terriers with 32 points (10G,22A) which also was tied for the most points by a Hockey East defenseman. His four game-winners led BU and is tied for most by any NCAA defenseman.
As a freshman, Hutson earned Hockey East and national Rookie of the Year honors and was a first-team All-American. His 48 points were second on BU to brother Quinn Hutson‘s 50.

The second departure from the 2025-26 Terriers also was expected. Sophomore transfer Sacha Boisvert inked a three-year, entry level deal with the Blackhawks, although his debut in the NHL may be delayed by a visa issue.
An NCHC Rookie of the Year at North Dakota as a freshman, Boisvert’s season as a Terrier was, to be generous, challenging. A goal and two assist start in the opening game, his season went downhill after he suffered an upper body injury against Michigan State. There were some bright spots: a four-assist effort against Merrimack and a 2-point game in the win at Harvard. Despite primarily skating on the Terriers’ top line, his point production simply wasn’t there. Besides those three games, Boisvert had just one goal and seven assists.
With the Blackhawks, he’ll join three former Terriers: Matt Grzelcyk, Alex Vlasic, and last season’s BU co-captain, Ryan Greene, who also wore #9.
