Liverpool’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League were dealt a blow on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham Hotspur.

Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick had put the Reds ahead at Anfield, but former Everton man Richarlison rescued a point for the Lilywhites in the closing stages, ending Igor Tudor’s losing run at the start of his tenure as Spurs’ interim manager.

Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool remain fifth in the top flight table, but are now two points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa in the race to qualify for the Champions League.

Despite guiding the Merseyside outfit to the Premier League title in his first season in charge at Anfield, manager Arne Slot has found himself under intense pressure on a number of different occasions this term.

Now, it appears that the Dutchman’s position is once again uncertain, with one of the club’s most legendary players waiting to take charge if Slot is dismissed.

According to indykaila News, former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard is ready and waiting to take charge of Liverpool for the remainder of the season if he is asked to do so.

The Englishman made more than 700 appearances for the Reds during his time as a player, winning 11 trophies including the Champions League in 2005, during which he played an instrumental role in Liverpool’s comeback victory over AC Milan in Istanbul.

After retiring, Gerrard spent time working as a coach and manager for Liverpool’s youth sides, before being appointed as manager of Scottish giants Rangers in 2018.

The former England international enjoyed huge success in Glasgow, winning the Scottish Premiership title during the 2020/21 campaign and, in doing so, preventing rivals Celtic from winning a tenth consecutive title.

More recently Gerrard has managed in the Premier League with Aston Villa, as well as in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq, however his time in the Middle East came to an end last year and he is currently without a club.

It is claimed that the Englishman would be willing to take charge of Liverpool on a short-term deal until the end of the current campaign.
