Fabio Wardley DOUBTFUL over Oleksandr Usyk fight despite callout

Fabio Wardley admits he has his reservations over whether Oleksandr Usyk will face him, despite the Ukrainian calling him out.

Usyk was expected to face Wardley after his October upset over Joseph Parker, but he instead relinquished his WBO heavyweight title, with the Ipswich man elevated to full champion.

The 39-year-old revealed he has three fights remaining in his storied career, starting with a defence of his WBC crown against ex-kickboxing champion, Rico Verhoeven in Egypt on May 23.

Wardley will make a first defence of his WBO title against Daniel Dubois on May 9 and Usyk claimed he wants the winner followed by a third outing with Tyson Fury.

However, Wardley admits he has his doubts over whether ’The Cat’ will look to face him, in spite of his comments.

“It’s nice to be on the list,” the 31-year-old told IFLTV.

“It’s nice to be in the conversation.

“I would’ve always assumed that I would have been.

“I still take it with a pinch of salt, because before the Parker fight, I was having conversations with him.

“Before the Dubois fight [was announced], I was having conversations with him.

“We’ll see. I’m not banking on it.

“I’m not going to go, ‘oh yeah I’ve done the Dubois fight, Usyk now.’

“Because you never know how this game’s going to play out, how it’s going to work, what they’re going to want, how they’re going to want it to work.

“It’s great to be on the list, it’s great to be included and look I welcome it with open arms.”

Usyk has already stopped Dubois twice, the second of which came in July where he halted the Brit in five rounds to regain the undisputed heavyweight championship at Wembley Stadium.

WBC President, Mauricio Sulaiman says he will be ordered to defend his WBC title against interim champion, Agit Kabayel after facing Verhoeven, who will compete for just the second time as a professional boxer.
