The Western Region Schools Rugby 15s got off to a competitive start with a mix of dominant wins, tight contests, and early statements from title contenders as teams eye knock slots.
Kakamega and Senende are the only teams with a 100 percent record after Day 1. Kakamega opened with a 12-00 win over Butula before edging Bokoli 13-03 in a disciplined performance that underlined their title credentials. Senende, on the other hand, registered back-to-back narrow wins, beating Butula 07-03 and Bokoli 06-03 to remain unbeaten.
National Champions Vihiga are also yet to lose, though not perfect, having settled for a 14-14 draw with Bungoma before bouncing back emphatically with a 31-00 win over Amukura. Bungoma remain unbeaten as well, courtesy of the draw against Vihiga and a solid 12-00 win over St. Peters.
St. Peters sit on mixed fortunes with a win (12-03 vs Amukura) and a loss (00-12 vs Bungoma), while Butula and Bokoli are still searching for their first victories after suffering two defeats each. Amukura also remain winless, having lost both their matches without scoring.
All eyes now shift to the key Day 2 fixtures, where Vihiga face St. Peters and Senende take on Kakamega in what could be a decisive clash for pool supremacy.
