Formula E drivers have sent a letter to the president of the FIA outlining several grievances and I have the details in this week’s Sustainable Motorsport Roundup. I also have details on sustainable fuels in both Formula 1 and NASCAR, a hydrogen in motorsport forum and more!

Fuel or Fiction? How Formula 1 Could Make or Break Sustainable Fuels
A 100% sustainable “drop‑in” race fuel for F1 could decide whether sustainable fuel is a climate solution or a clever illusion. Impakter takes a look at the argument both for and against.
“If it works in the most demanding racing series on earth, F1’s backers say it could work almost anywhere. However, the stakes are high. If it fails on a technical, environmental, or political level, it might take the whole idea of sustainable fuel down with it, and with F1 back racing in a double header, it’s lights out, and away we go.”

From Track to Tarmac: How Formula E is Driving the Net Zero Transition
On 4–5 March 2026, the Net Zero Summit in London brought together leaders from energy, mobility and sport to discuss the accelerating transition to a low-carbon future. Two panel sessions — Using Sport and Culture to Promote Sustainability and The Future of Electric Cars in a Net Zero World — explored the role of Formula E and motor racing in electric mobility. Global Sustainable Sport reports on what was discussed.
“Selling wind turbines or battery storage isn’t exactly glamorous. Formula E brings that attractiveness — it makes the technology visible and exciting.”
NASCAR’s Biofuel Revolution
For decades, NASCAR, stood for roaring engines, speed, and fierce competition. The sport, headquartered in Daytona Beach, Florida, built its reputation on powerful combustion engines and high-energy racing events across the United States.
However, the organization has recently shifted gears. Today, NASCAR is embracing sustainability and cleaner technology while still protecting the thrill of racing. The sport is working toward a bold target: net-zero operating emissions by 2035.
Carbon Credits looks at NASCAR’s IMPACT strategy and how they intend to reach net-zero carbon emissions from its operations by 2035.
H2 Forum for Universities in Spa-Francorchamps

During the second round of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship, as the motorsport competition showcases its research into more sustainable racing and mobility on the Belgian track, European teachers will learn about hydrogen at a forum organized at the circuit by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, the FIA World Endurance Championship, MissionH24 and its partners, Automotive Skills Alliance, GreenSkills for H2, and Hydrogen Europe Research.

Formula E Grid Drops Bombshell ‘Letter of Concern’ to FIA President

The entire Formula E grid has signed a letter addressed to the FIA president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, complaining about a slew of grievances. The 20 drivers laid out their frustrations with stewarding, race direction, and the application of the sporting regulations within the series. Apparently this was done without the knowledge of the series organizers or the teams.
Sam Smith of The Race explains how this is just one example of the series’ habit of self-sabotage. “Remarkably, the incendiary letter signed by all 20 drivers that The Race exposed yesterday is not the first time a trade union-style flashpoint has occurred in Formula E.”
Another Major Car Brand’s on the Brink of Joining Formula E
Opel is being primed to return to world championship competition as its parent company Stellantis looks set to shake-up its brand representation in Formula E from 2026.
The Race can reveal that recent high-level talks within Stellantis Motorsport have resulted in Opel emerging as a strong favourite to represent it in Formula E from the start of the Gen4 rules cycle.

Hydrogen Aviation OEM Beyond Aero Reaches Key Aircraft Design Milestone

Beyond Aero has completed the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) of its hydrogen-electric business jet and advanced its certification pathway under CS-25 and Part 25 — the transport-category standards of EASA and the FAA, marking a key milestone as hydrogen aviation moves toward industrial execution.
The milestone concludes the aircraft’s preliminary design phase, confirming the integration of hydrogen storage, electric propulsion, thermal management, fuel cell system and safety systems into a certifiable aircraft architecture. The program now progresses on schedule toward detailed design, engineering, and the definition of the validation plan.
