The International League T20 is falling behind the other T20 leagues. When it was announced, many expected the league to be very popular. However, since SA20 is happening at around the same time, the league has not been able to attract popular stars. The tournament could do with some well-known Indian cricketers. Thus, many fans in India will start watching the tournament. The league also expressed the desire to hire Shikhar Dhawan, who recently retired from international and domestic cricket. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two franchises which could target Shikhar Dhawan for ILT20 2025.
1) MI Emirates
MI Emirates is the most successful side in the ILT20. The team has been in excellent form under Nicholas Pooran. Mumbai Indians owners have always gone behind big names and sometimes, it has happened at the expense of the balance of the side.
Nevertheless, with a big Indian cricketer like Shikhar Dhawan available, MI Emirates will surely try to pick him. They did that with the likes of Ambati Rayudu in the previous edition. Dhawan’s presence will make the franchise more popular and maybe, in the future, Dhawan’s experience can be used in a coaching role, as well.
2) Dubai Capitals
Dubai Capitals is one of the franchises which could target Shikhar Dhawan for ILT20 2025. Shikhar Dhawan’s peak in the Indian Premier League came about when he was playing for Delhi. The team was also doing well but they just could not go all the way.
The owners had high hopes for David Warner last season. However, the Aussie disappointed both in the ILT20 and also in the IPL. Now that Dhawan is available, they could think of replacing Warner with Dhawan. While Gabbar could offer more solidity at the top of the order, he would also draw more fans to the franchise.
