Reds pitcher Brady Singer is good to go after blister scare

Earlier this week Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Brady Singer had to exit his start early against the Colorado Rockies due to a developing blister on his index finger. Singer, entering the final year before he can become a free agent, has been nothing short of reliable over the last couple of seasons. In 2023 he started 29 games for the Kansas City Royals. In the two years that have followed he’s started 32 in each. Only 12 pitchers have started more games in that 3-year stretch.

While Cincinnati has some pitching depth – to the point that they’re going to be without Hunter Greene for much of the first half of the season and still have “too many starters” for the opening week’s rotation and for the final two spots are going to use some sort of hybrid system with Rhett Lowder, Chase Burns, and Brandon Williamson to keep them all in the big leagues and stretched out as starters – losing a reliable veteran like Brady Singer would sting a bit. That doesn’t seem to be much of a concern at this point as he told the assembled media today in Arizona that things are back to normal and he’s on his regular schedule and expects to pitch on Monday in Milwaukee as the Reds wrap up spring training with two games against the Brewers in Wisconsin. This was first reported (by a matter of seconds over others) by Charlie Goldsmith of Fox19.

The Reds are back on the field tonight. The game was moved from a 4:05pm ET start to a 9:05pm ET start due to an excessive heatwave going through the Phoenix area. It’s expected to be 100°+ and sunny this afternoon. Things aren’t going to be different at first pitch, when it’s still supposed to be 103° but is expected to drop about 10° as the game goes on and the sun sets.
