The seven-time world champion finally secured his first podium in Ferrari colours in Shanghai, drawing level after Charles Leclerc’s third-place finish in Melbourne.
Speaking on the Red Flags podcast, the Italian-American believes Leclerc has age on his side, something Hamilton inevitably lacks, as well as greater hunger to win, given he has yet to secure a Formula 1 title.

“I think what Charles has got on his side is his age. It’s very close, but in the end, I think Charles will beat Lewis. If Lewis would be 10 years younger, maybe that would be something different. Also, Lewis is a seven-time world champion. Charles, zero. So he’s more hungry, more appetite.”

Hamilton makes blunt admission after securing long-awaited Ferrari podium

Hamilton admitted after the race that securing a podium had been a key target, describing it as one of the toughest challenges he has faced in recent times. He explained that achieving such a result now requires far more effort than earlier in his career, stressing how important it was to remain patient and wait for the right opportunity.

He also highlighted the strong mental approach he has developed heading into the season, which he believes has played a crucial role in his performances so far.

Hamilton added that he has regained the confidence he once had, underlining how he has managed to carry that mindset into the new season while continuing to build on it race after race.
