Steelers may have an obvious replacement for Aaron Rodgers

With most of the primary options already off the table, the Pittsburgh Steelers might be left in an uncomfortable position if Aaron Rodgers retires.

The Steelers haven’t shown any signs of wanting to rebuild, and not having their future Hall of Famer at quarterback would throw a huge wrench in their plans.

That’s why Nick Wright believes it’s officially time to move on from Rodgers while there’s another option who makes sense for them.

Talking on Fox’s “First Things First,” the controversial pundit ripped Rodgers and urged the Steelers to sign Kirk Cousins instead.

Nick Wright thinks the Steelers should sign Kirk Cousins

“I think they should sign Kirk Cousins. I am offended on the Steelers’ behalf that Rodgers is such a delicate snowflake that he can’t make his decision yet,” Wright said. “It is inexplicable, bordering on indefensible, why Aaron Rodgers is not on the Steelers yet, if assuming the Steelers want him, which it appears they do.”

Wright questioned Rodgers’ leadership, once again questioning why he hasn’t made up his mind about whether to return or not.

“For some reason, he needs to be special,” continued Wright. “You know who’s playing quarterback for you, but for some reason he won’t sign up for it. On the position in sports where leadership matters the most, that’s a bad idea. So I’d just sign Kirk Cousins. He seems awesome.”

Cousins played well in 10 games (eight starts) for the Atlanta Falcons before his release. He completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 1,721 yards with 10 touchdowns and five picks.

He’s great in a play-action-based offense and, while not mobile like Rodgers, he can make the most of the Steelers’ vertical weapons. He’s also a veteran leader.

That said, the Steelers might be ready to roll with former Ohio State star Will Howard if Rodgers decides to walk away. Rodgers likes to take his time before making career decisions, and as frustrating as it has been, he might still come back for another season. As for Cousins, he might be running out of opportunities to be a starter.
