Singapore Secures a Convincing 47-Run Victory Over Maldives in Asia Qualifier A

Kuala Lumpur – In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier A, Singapore triumphed over Maldives by 47 runs in a match held on Saturday, 31st August 2024, at the Bayuemas Oval. A solid half-century by Manpreet Singh and a disciplined bowling performance were key to Singapore’s victory.

Singapore’s Innings:

Batting first, Singapore posted a competitive total of 153/7 in their 20 overs. Captain and wicketkeeper Manpreet Singh led the charge with a composed 51 off 42 balls, supported by Surendran Chandramohan, who added 40 off 36 balls. Despite a shaky start, where Singapore lost four wickets within the powerplay, the middle-order stabilized the innings, allowing Singapore to set a challenging target for the Maldives.

Maldives’ Response:

Chasing 154, the Maldives never got going, with Singapore’s bowlers consistently applying pressure. Janak Prakash was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3/20, while Amartya Kaul also impressed with 3/20. The Maldives managed only 106/8 in their 20 overs, with Mohamed Shiyam’s 25* off 26 balls being the only notable contribution.

Brief Scores:

Singapore: 153/7 in 20 overs (Manpreet Singh 51, Surendran Chandramohan 40; Leem Shafeeq 2/27, Umar Adam 2/35)

Maldives: 106/8 in 20 overs (Mohamed Shiyam 25*; Janak Prakash 3/20, Amartya Kaul 3/20)
