Mauricio Pochettino has already been forced into one change on his March U.S. men’s national team roster.
Goalkeeper Patrick Schulte has replaced Roman Celentano ahead of the upcoming friendlies against Belgium and Portugal, U.S. Soccer announced Sunday. Celentano was forced to withdraw to avoid a potential injury risk after being kept out of FC Cincinnati’s 4-3 win against CF Montreal earlier in the day.
The 25-year-old Schulte has earned three USMNT caps to date, debuting against Slovenia in January 2024.
At club level, Schulte won the 2023 MLS Cup with the Columbus Crew as well as the 2024 Leagues Cup title. He also won the CONCACAF Champions Cup Best Goalkeeper award in 24′ and most recently was part of the USMNT’s training camp roster last November.
He joins Matt Freese, Matt Turner, and Chris Brady in the USMNT goalkeeping corps this month.
The USMNT will host Belgium on March 28 in Atlanta, Georgia before concluding their two-match window against Portugal three days later.
