Gujarat Titans (GT) head coach Ashish Nehra, batting coach Matthew Hayden and batter Glenn Phillips addressed the media ahead of IPL 2026. The trio was present at the GT Shubharambh 2026 event.

Nehra, who was with GT in 2022 when they won the title, stressed that players taking responsibility would not change the team’s functioning. As in the past, the team management will give players the freedom to make the right decisions on the field.

“I don’t think there’s a need to think differently this season. In fact, I don’t have to think, the players do. They have to think. They have to play; I’m sitting outside,” he said, highlighting the team’s trust in its players and their decision-making.

Reinforcing the team’s mindset, Nehra added, “From day one, our mindset has been clear, we are not here to participate, we are here to compete and win. For a new team, it’s easy to think it might take time, but that was never our approach.”

Hayden, who made the Mongoose bat famous, believes Rahul Tewatia could be the ideal candidate to use it, given his power-hitting credentials.

“If I had to hand my Mongoose bat to someone from GT, it would have to be Rahul Tewatia,” said Hayden. “He has the power. He does a very good job with the long bat. The margins in T20 cricket are five or ten runs, and to have that power at the back end and front end is valuable. You will get it, mate.”

Regarded as one of the finest fielders in the game, Glenn Phillips made a light-hearted remark about his fielding, saying: “I am worried when an easy catch comes my way. Hard catches I know I will take, but easy catches worry me.”
