The full-back had called time on his international career earlier this year but is now hanging up his boots completely
Former Wales star Liam Williams has announced his retirement from rugby.
The former British & Irish Lions full-back called time on his international career in January but has now decided to hang up his boots altogether. He signed for PREM Rugby side Newcastle Red Bulls at the start of the season, but has been struggling with a knee injury in recent times and has cited it as a factor behind his decision to retire.
Williams made his Wales debut in 2012 and went on to win 93 caps for his country, scoring 21 tries and winning two Six Nations titles, including a Grand Slam victory.

He also played at three Rugby World Cups and toured with the British & Irish Lions in 2017 and 2021, while he won the Pro12 title with the Scarlets and both the Premiership and Champions Cup with Saracens.
The 34-year-old, who also represented Cardiff and Japanese side Kubota Spears, joined Newcastle in September but made just three appearances for the club as he struggled to shake off his knee injury.
He announced his retirement from all forms of rugby in a video shared on his Instagram account on Wednesday afternoon, saying it was “the right time” to step away, with a “new chapter about to begin”.
“I’ve been a professional for 15 years, that takes its toll,” he said. “I think it’s the right time for me to call it a day.
“I always thought I would go out on my own terms. Having knee trouble for the past few years has taken its toll.
“The feeling I have is one of immense pride,” the full-back added.
After thanking his family and agent for their support over the years, Williams also paid tribute to his coaches, becoming emotional as he spoke about former Wales head coach Warren Gatland.
Turning his attention to the supporters, he added: “Lastly, I’d like to thank all of the fans out there who supported me on the way.
“My journey’s ended but a new chapter is about to begin.”
Captioning the video, Williams added: “Grateful for every memory, and a thank you to everyone who backed me along the way.
“A special journey, but time to hang up the boots. On to the next chapter.”
