Head coach of the Indian cricket team Gautam Gambhir selected his all-time playing XI for the team, making some audacious choices. Although Gambhir selected himself, both star pacer Jasprit Bumrah and current Indian captain Rohit Sharma were left off the roster. Gambhir selected a four-man bowling team, each member having two pacers and spinners.
ICT’s ODI JourneyÂ
With the backing of billions of people, the Indian cricket team has only gotten stronger over the years. Their first-ever ODI came against England in 1974, three years after the format was introduced.
The Indian cricket team has had success in two ICC Cricket World Cups along its journey: in 1983 and 2011. They have made it to the championship game once more (2003) and have consistently advanced through the knockout stages. Additionally, the Indian cricket team has won the ICC Champions Trophy twice. Under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, they won it in a dominant manner in 2013 after sharing it with Sri Lanka in 2002.
Gambhir’s All Time ODI Playing XIÂ
Gambhir selected Virender Sehwag and himself for the part. Rahul Dravid was ranked number three, and Tendulkar batted in his Test career at number four, where he was ranked. In Gambhir’s lineup, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli both found a spot. Dhoni was selected as the team’s only batter who could keep wickets, while Kohli was positioned at number five. The 2011 World Cup hero of India, Yuvraj Singh, a renowned all-rounder, was assigned to bat at number six in the batting order. Anil Kumble and Ravichandran Ashwin, the greatest wicket-takers in Test cricket history for India, are among Gambhir’s two spinners in the team.
In case you missed it, Ashwin (516) and Kumble (619) are the only Indian bowlers who have claimed over 500 wickets in Test matches. One of the two pacers Gambhir selected was Zaheer Khan, who was the cornerstone of India’s pace attack during the 2000s. The only players in Gambhir’s XI who did not play for India in the 2011 World Cup are Pathan, Kumble, and Dravid. He chose not to select any captain.
