Shot Scope Pro X Review: Performance Meets Style

Shot Scope Pro X Review: Performance Meets Style

I’ve always preferred simplicity in my golf gadget lineup. Speed, accuracy and ease of use are of utmost importance to me, granting more time to focus on my golf game and spend quality time with my playing partners.

So when I’m looking for rangefinders, I naturally gravitate towards lower-priced options – in this space, there are plenty of alternatives that deliver rock solid performance at a reasonable price point but might lack some of the bells and whistles of the upper tier.

This offseason, I’ve had the opportunity to test a rangefinder that hit all of the important areas for me: quick, accurate readings, an easy-to-read display and a strong magnet.

What set the Shot Scope Pro X apart from similarly-priced peers, though, was the option to customize its look on a magnetic side logo plate.

A handful of standard logo options are available for normal purchase, while for orders of six or more (perfect for pro shops, tournaments/outings, bachelor parties, etc.) you can have your own custom logo proudly displayed.

We worked with Shot Scope to procure a WiscGolfAddict-themed unit for testing, and the process couldn’t have been simpler – just send them a logo file (one where the color meshes well against a black or white background, preferably), and they’ll custom print the plates.

The look of my Pro X is phenomenal, and it now pairs exceptionally well with my white Vessel bag to rep the WiscoGolfAddict brand even more proudly on the course.

The customized side panels of the Pro X will put your brand front-and-center on the golf course

The look of my custom-plated Pro X, paired with excellent performance as we’ll explore in the next section, has elevated it to become my #1 go-to rangefinder out of a collection of several mid-tier models.

Rock-Solid Performance

I’m not the caliber of golfer where a yard or two of variation in a reading will make much of a difference – on most days.

But my round at the Pete Dye Mountain Course at PGA West last month was one of those magical days where I was making flush, square contact with my irons consistently, putting the Pro X to the test.

Would my stock yardages yield makeable birdie putts? Too often, I’ll flush an approach and either bound over the green or come up just short, calling into question a potentially poor rangefinder reading.

That day, though, I was ending pin high with impressive consistency, tucking iron shots near the pin on numerous occasions. There are a number of variables that went into it (obviously the state of my swing being one of them), but the consistency I enjoyed that day spoke to the pinpoint accuracy of the Pro X.

The Pro X has been a great on-course assistant in my handful of warm Southern rounds this winter

While the on-course performance of the Pro X has met high expectations, I also stacked it up directly against a well-performing alternative in the same general space of the market. Fortunately, I had one in stock that proved to be a relevant comparison – the Pinned Prism+. This was my favorite rangefinder in 2025 and I had already gained comfort in its reliability – it’s simply a solid rangefinder across the board at a moderate price point.

Here’s what I found:

  • Accuracy: The yardage and slope readings agreed between the two models to within 1-2 yards in all tests spanning short, medium and long distances. Verdict: Neutral
  • Speed: Both models produced readings almost instantaneously once locked on to the pin. Verdict: Neutral
  • Weight: The Pro X is about half the weight of the Prism+, and its lighter weight can cause a bit more shaking if your hands aren’t steady. Verdict: Prism+
  • Magnet: Both have a strong magnet that will keep the rangefinder secure against the cart even in bumpy terrain. Verdict: Neutral
  • Display/Magnification: The Prism+ features a 4k OLED display with 7x magnification, comparing favorably vs. the Pro X which has a standard display and 6x magnification. Verdict: Prism+
  • Style: The Pro X only comes in black or white, while the Prism+ offers nine color options; however, logos are only printed onto the side of the Prism+ in a smaller font, while the logo plate of the Pro X shines more prominently. Verdict: Pro X
  • Charging: The Pro X uses a CR2-3V lithium battery while the Prism+ has a rechargeable battery and USB-C charging. I also found the battery panel to be a bit difficult to open on the Pro X. Verdict: Prism+
  • Slope Switch: Both models have a slope switch on the top of the rangefinder which is easy to use. Verdict: Neutral
  • Modes: Both models can switch between yards and meters, almost too easily – I had the Pro X switched to meters by accident once and was wondering why the yardages were coming in so low. Verdict: Neutral

Add it all up, and the Prism+ came out ahead in a number of areas, but it also carries a price of $60 higher than the Pro X, which I think is reasonable given relatively modest differences. I’m happy with both rangefinders, but I think I’ll take the Pro X to the course most often this season with the WiscoGolfAddict logo panel being the key difference-maker.

The Shot Scope Pro X stays firmly attached to the cart – especially important on courses with heaving terrain

Paul Seifert also tested out the Pro X and came away with similar impressions:

“The Shot Scope Pro X has been an awesome surprise! I’ve used it almost exclusively for the past half-year – even over my year-old Bushnell – and that says a lot. It’s incredibly fast to grab yardages, feels great in the hand and the magnet is strong and dependable on the cart. I also love the magnetic WiscoGolfAddict logo plate – it’s held up perfectly and hasn’t fallen off once. It may not quite match the ability of a top-tier Bushnell to catch the pin every time, but it’s also in a completely different price tier. For the performance and value you’re getting, I’ve been genuinely impressed with the Pro X and put it up there with the very best rangefinders under $250.”

As part of the Shot Scope ecosystem, the Pro X also pairs with the MyStrategy app which will map out your shot dispersion and offer data-driven insights into your game.

Final Verdict: A Great Value

As we explored, the Pro X has met every optimistic expectation I have for a budget-friendly rangefinder. For someone seeking a simple rangefinder that’s accurate, easy to use and looks great, the Pro X emphatically checks all of these boxes.

Even more impressive is a price point of $199.99 that puts it firmly in the $150-249 range – as the WiscoGolfAddict Rangefinder Buyers Guide illustrates, options and performance in this space of the market vary significantly.

Rangefinder Buying Guide: Which Rangefinder is Right for You?

If you’ve yet to enter the world of getting immediate yardages, or if you’re looking to upgrade the equipment you’re currently using, chances are your head’s spinning shopping for rangefinders. It’s hard to discern the differences between them online, they’re expensive with significant price spreads and everyone claims to be “fast and accurate.”

The Pro X won’t break the bank, making it a perfect choice if you are budget-conscious looking to upgrade to a new model with rock-solid performance and a great look.
