Lucknow Super Giants have shut down rumours around Rishabh Pant’s captaincy, with owner Sanjiv Goenka making it clear that the team will stick with him for IPL 2026.
Goenka spoke openly on X, backing Pant and dismissing reports that the franchise was thinking of a leadership change before the new season.
He said, “Heading into the season, I had read the speculations around @RishabhPant17’s captaincy and smiled. We’ve spent enough time together to know his character and commitment. Have a great season, Cap!”
Pant was bought for a huge INR 27 crore, but his IPL 2025 season did not go as expected.
He scored 269 runs in 13 matches at an average of 24.45, and his captaincy also came under the scanner as LSG struggled to deliver consistent results.
There were also questions raised about his on-field reactions and decision-making during tight moments.
However, the franchise management has decided to continue trusting Pant, showing faith in both his leadership and ability to bounce back.
This is not the first time Pant has addressed rumours.
During IPL 2025, he had already hit out at fake news on social media that claimed he could be dropped, asking people to be more responsible.
He said, “I understand fake news gives more traction to content, but let’s not build everything around it. A little sense and credible news will help more, rather than making fake news with an agenda.”
LSG will begin their IPL 2026 campaign against Delhi Capitals on April 1 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
All eyes will be on Pant as he leads the side again, with fans and experts keen to see if he can turn things around after a tough last season.
For now, the message from the franchise is simple. Pant remains their captain, and they are backing him fully.
