Miami Open 2026 Day 9 Recap

Day 9 of the 2026 Miami Open produced two highly one-sided quarterfinals at Hard Rock Stadium, setting up a semifinal between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev.

Zverev (3) dismantled Francisco Cerundolo (18) 6-1, 6-2 in just 65 minutes, dominating with 76% first serves and winning 84% of those points.

While Jannik Sinner (2) was equally clinical, cruising past Frances Tiafoe (19) 6-2, 6-2 in 71 minutes while dropping just nine points on serve and extending his Masters 1000 consecutive sets won streak to 30.

With both matches over quickly, the focus now turns to tomorrow’s semifinals. Full recap and stats below.

Alexander Zverev (3) def. Francisco Cerundolo (18) 6-1, 6-2

Zverev delivered a dominant, no-nonsense performance in just 65 minutes. He landed 76% of first serves, won 84% of those points, and converted 4/7 break points while barely allowing Cerundolo any rhythm.

I thought Cerundolo would cause a problem, but this was Zverev’s fourth straight win over the Argentine (all in straight sets, including earlier this season at the Australian Open), and he’s really got a handle on the H2H after some early losses.

He has not faced a break point in three of his four matches this tournament and praised his more aggressive style. Next: vs. Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals.

Highlights

Jannik Sinner (2) def. Frances Tiafoe (19) 6-2, 6-2

Jannik Sinner cruised in 71 minutes, breaking Tiafoe in the opening game and dropping just nine points on his own serve.

It was a typical clinical baseline hitting performance, and he maintained composure against the vocal home support for Tiafoe.

This victory extended Sinner’s Masters 1000 consecutive sets won streak to 30 and looks very well poised to do the Sunshine Double as he’s won the last six matches against Zverev, and a Lehecka or Fils final won’t worry him.
