“Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment,” Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said.
“He co-operated with the breathalyzer, and then the urine sample he wanted no part of. … He is in our jail, and he will be in there for at least eight hours and then will be released on bond.”
All DUI suspects in Florida are held in jail for a minimum of eight hours.
According to Budensiek, Woods was driving behind a pressure cleaning truck and the golfer attempted to pass the truck at a high speed and swirved to try and avoid a collision, but clipped the back end of the truck’s trailer, listing to the side before rolling onto the driver side of his Land Rover SUV.
“He was lethargic on scene,” Budensiek said. “We know he crawled out of the passenger’s door.”
The photo shows a large SUV resting on its left side on the road in the ritzy Florida neighbourhood, near the golfer’s home.

“He did explain the injuries and the surgeries that he had, and we did take that into account,” Budensiek said.
In 2017, Tiger Woods checked into a clinic for inpatient treatment to manage his use of prescription pain medications.
Just over five years ago, Woods was involved in a very serious single car rollover accident that nearly cost the 15-time major winner part of his right leg. In that horrific crash the golfer suffered compound fractures of both his right tibia and fibula, as well as bone injuries to his right foot and ankle.
Woods hasn’t played on the PGA Tour since rupturing his Achilles tendon in 2024. He had lumbar disc replacement surgery on his lower back in October 2025.
Woods has a long history of injury, including eight back surgeries and five knee surgeries. In what is considered one of the greatest comebacks in sports history, Woods won the 2019 Masters title, his fifth green jacket.

“We really weren’t suspicious of alcohol being involved and that proved true,” Budensiek said. “Mr. Woods did a breathalyzer test and blew triple zeroes, but when it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused so he’s been charged with DUI, with property damage and with refusal to submit to a lawful test.”
The accident took place just three days after Woods made his return to competitive golf in Tuesday’s TGL final where his Jupiter Links team was defeated by Justin Rose’s L.A. Golf Club.
After competing in the TGL final, there has been much speculation whether Woods would make his official return in two weeks time at the Masters Tournament, although Donald Trump said on Thursday that Woods would not be playing.
The U.S. president made the claim during a TV appearance on Thursday, saying that Woods will not be competing at the biggest event on the golf calendar.
During a phone interview on Fox News’ The Five, Trump said the golfing legend wouldn’t be at Augusta National in April — before clarifying that Woods would be there, but won’t be competing.
“I love Tiger, but he won’t be there,” Trump said. “He will be there, but he won’t be playing in it.”
