As we journey down the back nine of our golfing journey, there are many aspects of our game that changes. It is not because of something catastrophic, but the slow creep of age into our game. Generally, most senior golfers are less flexible which in turn affects our golf swing. Additionally, the wear and tear of life may cause other challenges that prevents our ability to swing the golf clubs the way our mind thinks we should; but that is just life. Because I am a senior golfer, I thought it would be beneficial to offer some solutions to keeping our game sharp.
I did a fair bit of research trying to find a concise video that would help us senior golfers keep our game sharp. As I watched the five tips from US Golf TV, I could relate to each of them. There are two tips that I are important to my game and we can discuss that after you watch the video.
The two tips (although all five are very good) that resonate the most with my game is flaring my feet, especaily my lead foot. I adopted this stance years ago and have benefited greatly from the additional rotation. I have never had a great hip rotation, but that is a something that not stopped my ability to score. So, flaring my feet just makes sense to counter act my diminishing flexibiltiy.
The other point is not to sway but to load up the side of my trail foot. When I create the proper weight distribution by loading up the inside edge of my trail foot, I generate more power than expected and as a result hit the ball farther off the tee. Additionally, this particular swing action helps me maintain my balance throughout my entire swing. There are so many benefits from the proper weight shift it is difficult to capture them all.
As you can see, senior golfers have the ability to score well even though they are challenged by their diminishing physical ability. Using the tips above might help, but remember to only try those tips that you are physically capable of executing. You do not want to create other challenges by overdoing a particular swing action. Regardless of which tips works for you, being a senior golfer is an exciting time in your journey as you now have the knowledge and experience to excel.
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
