Kenny Omega just admitted that years ago, he probably wouldn’t have handled Cody Rhodes landing a big movie role the same way he did today.
While talking about video games and the upcoming Street Fighter movie, Omega recalled hearing that Cody Rhodes had been cast to play Guile. Instead of reacting negatively, Omega said he reached out to congratulate him — but he was honest about how the “old him” would have handled that situation.
Omega explained that hearing the news made him realize how much his mindset has changed compared to earlier in his career, when jealousy might have been his first reaction.
“I remember one of the first things I did when it was released that Cody was going to play Guile. I gave him a message and I said to him, I said, ‘Hey, hey, Coats. I said, I just want to say, congrats.’ He said, ‘I know the old me would have been just fuming. He would have been jealous. He would have been upset that you got this role.’ I says, ‘But I’m just excited and happy for you.’”
Omega’s comments give fans a quick look at how his attitude has changed over time. Instead of feeling bitter about someone else getting a major opportunity, he said he was genuinely happy for Cody — something he admitted might not have happened in the past.
With more wrestlers landing roles in movies and TV, moments like this show how competition outside the ring can hit just as hard as anything inside it.
Do you think Kenny Omega’s honesty about how he used to react makes him more relatable, or do you think that kind of jealousy is just part of the business? Let us know your thoughts and leave your feedback.
