MELBOURNE (AUS, Mar 28): Two early-season world bests and six meeting records highlighted the inaugural WACT Gold event of the season, the 2026 Maurie Plant Meet, despite chilly and cold weather. 19-year-old Cameron Myers clocked the fastest time ever on Australian soil and won the John Landy 1500m in 3:30.42 WL/MR with a huge lead over Adam Spencer (3:37.51), while Germany’s Robert Farken was DNF after hitting the track after a collision. It is also the best-ever outdoor 1500 m time for the months of January-April.

Jacory Patterson decided his 400m victory on the top bend, setting a new WL/MR of 44.41, ahead of Luke Van Ratingen (45.03 PB), Thomas Reynolds (45.13 PB), and Reece Holder (45.16).

Nina Kennedy, in her first international appearance since 2024, cleared 472 MR with a three-quarter run-up on her third attempt (did not continue to jump further), and won the pole vault over Hana Moll (456) and Amanda Moll (436).

Lachlan Kennedy got two victories, clocking 10.03 (0.3) MR in his first 100m since July 2025 over Rohan Browning (10.25), and defeating Gout Gout in the Peter Norman Memorial 200m, clocking 20.38 (-0.7) versus 20.43 in heavy rain.

 

Claudia Hollingsworth in 4:01.30 MR defeated Georgia Hunter Bell (4:01.52) in the 1500m,

Nicola Olyslagers won the high jump with 195 from U20 Izobelle Louison-Roe (195 =PB) on countback, Matthew Denny (67.51) topped the discus ahead of Briton Lawrence Okoye (65.09) and Roje Stona (64.60), and Luke Boyes won the 800m in 1:45.21 from U20 Daniel Williams (1:46.16) and Tony Van Diepen of the Netherlands (1:46.19). Peter Bol was a late withdrawal due to a fever the night before.

Good 3000m times by Jackson Sharp with 7:41.02 MR ahead of Seth O’Donnell (7:41.11) and Ireland’s Brian Fay (7:42.85), and by Rose Davies with 8:45.13 over Maudie Skyring (8:47.05) and Georgia Griffith (8:48.00). More wins by Michelle Jenneke in the 100m hurdles with 13.06 (1.2), Alex Epitropakis in the long jump with 796 (1.8) PB defeating Liam Adcock (794/-1.3), Sarah Carli in the 400m hurdles (56.08) and Daisy Osakue of Italy in the women’s discus (57.94).
