Alexa
Grasso authored one of the most memorable finishes in recent
memory in the
UFC Seattle co-main event.
The former flyweight queen dropped Maycee
Barber, then applied a rear-naked choke to her already
unconscious foe, earning an emphatic stoppage victory at the 2:42
mark of Round 1 on Saturday at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. As
a result, Grasso was the recipient of a $100,000 “Performance of
the Night” bonus.
Meanwhile, Joe Pyfer
garnered the evening’s other $100,00 Performance of the Night”
award for his finish of ex-middleweight ruler Israel
Adesanya in the evening’s headliner. Pyfer weathered a slow
start, then shifted momentum by rocking his opponent with power
punches on the feet in the second round. From there, “Bodybagz”
landed a takedown and eventually put Adesanya away with
ground-and-pound at the 4:18 mark of the period.
Preliminary Barnburner Earns $100K
Finally, Tofiq
Musayev and Ignacio
Bahamondes garnered “Fight of the Night” honors and $100,000
apiece for their preliminary lightweight duel. Bahamondes had the
edge early, especially when he dropped his adversary with a right
hand early in the second stanza. Musayev would rally, however, as
he cut Bahamondes wide open with an elbow and proceeded to turn the
tide behind takedowns, control and ground-and-pound to capture a
unanimous decision triumph.
