Ron MacLean: “So Wisconsin’s moved on. We’re down to seven teams. Looks like North Dakota is going to advance against Quinnipiac. Cole Reschny just made it 5-0. But this is when we start to look at names moving on.
Friedman: “Especially with Canadian content here. And there’s three names I do want to mention.
First of all, obviously, Gavin McKenna, the potential number one pick. Penn State lost night. He can’t go to the AHL. He couldn’t even make a miracle, return to the CHL if Medicine Hat wanted to make it happen. I do think the most likely next step for Gavin McKenna is the World Championships for Canada. Now, nothing’s finalized at this point in time, but I think there’s a will on everybody’s part to make this happen. So we’ll we should expect, barring something very surprising, that he’s going to end up there.
Which RFA Will Blink First, and the Maple Leafs President Talking to People Inside and Outside
Now Michigan. You mentioned Wisconsin. Tthey upset Michigan State tonight. I got a few notes from people who are covering that game that you know keep an eye on Porter Martone. He was taken at the top of the first round this year, sixth overall by Philadelphia. And people just said this one could move very quickly. So that will be something to keep an eye on over the next 24 to 48 hours.
And the other one is (Jonathan) Castagna, the player who was traded from Utah to Calgary in the Mackenzie Weegar deal. His team was knocked out, Cornell, yesterday, and there’s a lot of optimism here that something’s going to get done. Eric Francis reported today that the Flames have sent a couple people to go meet with him and talk to him. Nothing, again, finalized at this time, but there sounds like there’s a lot of optimism that Jonathan Castagna and the
Flames will get something done.
- Eric Francis: The Calgary Flames sent two front office people to Colorado to meet with Jonathan Castagna about the possibility of signing his entry-level contract. His NCAA season is now over, and the door is open for him to sign with the Flames.
