Providence College forward Duncan Powell was arrested overnight and charged with domestic violence disorderly conduct following an incident in which he allegedly threatened his ex-girlfriend and others at her residence.

Cranston police responded shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday to a home on Plainfield Pike, where a woman reported that Powell was outside with a gun.

Officers encountered him approaching with a hand in his sweatshirt and arrested him at gunpoint, though no weapon was found. His car was later located nearby.

A school spokesperson said Providence College has no comment at this time.

Powell’s ex-girlfriend told police he had struck her earlier in the day, showing a bruise, and said she discovered a tracking device on her car, adding that Powell had been trying to find her location.

A witness said Powell came to the house earlier and threatened to kill everyone inside and himself, remaining at the door for several minutes before leaving.

According to police, Powell also repeatedly called his ex-girlfriend while officers were on scene, with one officer answering and speaking to him.
