Dolphin’s late run for the Division 2C Top 4 continues, they faced the league leaders Clonmel on Saturday at home as the Tipperary side looked to go through the regular season unbeaten at home.

An early Cam O’Shaughnessy try, his 30th AIL try, converted by Hunter Yarrall gave Dolphin an excellent start. Cl-onmel quickly replied and after 15 mins a 2nd converted try gave the home side a 14-7 lead.

A Ryan Foley try in the corner reduced the Clonmel lead to 14-12. Cam O’Shaughnessy saw a gap and chipped ahead and Craig O’ Connell collected it to score a converted try under the posts and Dolphin had a 14-19 lead at the break.

Nearly 35 mins had elapsed before the next score, a converted try from Eoghan Sheehan. 14-26.

Clonmel were not finished, 3 minutes later a converted try and the margin was back to 5 points again.

A timely converted try by No 8 Richie Heaslip put the came beyond doubt.

Clonmel 21  Dolphin 33.

Dolphin now have a 2 point lead over 5th place Monkstown, next weeks final game v Belfast Harlequins is very important for both sides. Any type of Dolphin win would be enough to qualify for the League Playoffs- Belfast Harlequins need a point to avoid automatic relegation, however Malahide are 5 points behind them and need a TBP win at home to Monkstown in addition to Belfast Harlequins being held pointless.
