One of the most anticipated fights in European MMA finally has an official date.
Undefeated rising star Max Holzer (11-0) will square off with former UFC fighter Khalid Taha (16-5, 1 NC) in a highly anticipated featherweight showdown at OKTAGON 88. The fight takes place Saturday, May 16, inside the ZAG Arena in Hannover, Germany—Holzer’s hometown.
The matchup was originally scheduled for last September but had to be postponed after Holzer withdrew due to medical reasons. Now, the two rivals will finally meet inside the cage to settle their long-standing tension.
Max Holzer: Europe’s Rising Featherweight Star
Since signing with OKTAGON MMA roughly two years ago, Holzer has quickly emerged as one of Europe’s top featherweight prospects. The German standout remains undefeated with an 11-0 professional record and has gone 5-0 inside the promotion, climbing to No. 3 in the featherweight rankings.
Holzer has finished four of those fights, showcasing his finishing ability against tough competition. One of his most talked-about performances came against Deniz Ilbay in a heated bout that sparked controversy after an intense exchange following the final bell.
Nicknamed “Stifler,” Holzer has become a fan favorite thanks to his charismatic personality and elaborate walkouts that often steal the spotlight before the fight even begins. A victory over a veteran like Taha could propel him into title contention and significantly elevate his status in the European MMA scene.
Khalid Taha Brings UFC Experience and Knockout Power
Standing in Holzer’s path is battle-tested veteran Khalid Taha, who has competed on some of the sport’s biggest stages including the UFC and Rizin Fighting Federation.
During his career, Taha has shared the cage with notable opponents such as Boston Salmon and Raoni Barcelos. Since joining OKTAGON, he has made an immediate impact by scoring knockout victories over Jose Zarauz and Edgar Delgado.
With an impressive 88% finishing rate, Taha has made it clear he intends to derail Holzer’s unbeaten run when they finally meet in May.
Strong Supporting Card for OKTAGON 88
The featherweight showdown headlines a stacked lineup for OKTAGON 88.
In the co-main attraction, reigning featherweight champion Mago Machaev will make the first defense of his title against Holzer’s teammate Gjoni Palokaj.
The event will also feature the promotional debut of former UFC competitor Jarno Errens, who faces experienced French fighter Damien Lapilus.
Additionally, fan-favorite German fighter Hugo Vach—known as “The German Tarzan”—will take on the entertaining Teo Smith.
With a heated rivalry, a hometown crowd, and major implications for the featherweight division, Holzer vs. Taha is shaping up to be one of the biggest European MMA fights of the spring.
