This is not a post I will research on…this is a pure emotional post. This series has just begun and if this is a hint of what is coming…I will need some valium to get through it.
I was hoping Freddie Freeman would just punch a single to left field enough to drive home a run. It’s the very same thing I was wishing 36 years ago when another left-hander came up to bat with a guy named Mike Davis on second base with the score 4-3 A’s… Kirk Gibson parked one in the right field pavilion with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. He surprised everyone and put the Dodgers up by winning Game 1 in the 1988 World Series.
Don’t get me wrong…different circumstances with that left-handed hitter. Kirk had a strained hamstring on one leg and a swollen knee on the other and wasn’t supposed to play but as we know he did…just that one at bat. Freddie Freeman had a sprained ankle that still is not healed but not the shape that Kirk was in. But again…I was surprised again as Freddie parked one in the right field pavilion with 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th. Bases were loaded this time but all they needed was 2 to win…but I’ll take 4.
The announcer borrowed from the great Vin Scully…She Is Gone! As a Dodger and a huge Vin Scully fan…that was so cool.
This should be a great series. The teams are pretty evenly matched. If the Dodgers had Tyler Glasnow and 5th starter Gavin Stone I would like their chances more but hey…it’s the World Series. The Dodgers grabbed a little momentum from the Yankees tonight. It might not help…but Gibson’s homerun really changed that series… a different era though and I expect many close games.
