Jannik Sinner’s victory over Jiri Lehecka in the Miami Open final was the 300th hardcourt match of his career.

Sinner won the Sunshine Double after winning Indian Wells and Miami back-to-back and he did so without dropping a set.

The star’s form on hardcourt over the last six months has been sensational and he has now won the last three Masters events in a row.

Sinner has excelled on the surface since his debut, but three names have collected more wins in their first 300 hardcourt matches.

That figure puts him above some of the best players to ever play the game, including Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

Player Hardcourt victories after 300 matches
Jimmy Connors 270
Ivan Lendl 265
John McEnroe 252
Jannik Sinner 246
Pete Sampras 244
Stefan Edberg 244
Roger Federer 240
Novak Djokovic 239

There are only three names who built a better win percentage on hardcourt in their first 300 matches on the Tour.

Jimmy Connors, Ivan Lendl, and John McEnroe ousted Sinner in their first 300 matches, with Connors holding a remarkable 90% win rate.

Connors won the US Open five times in nine years, such was his dominance on hardcourts at the height of his powers.

Can Jannik Sinner find his hardcourt form on clay?

Sinner will be sad to see the back of the hardcourt season after his dominance on the surface over the last six months.

The Italian will now head to the European clay court swing, starting with the Monte Carlo Masters, a surface he has called his least favourite.

Speaking at the Italian Open last year, Sinner cited his need to improve on the surface if he wants to compete with the best.

He said: “We have to improve, it’s the surface where I struggle the most. But it’s the first tournament, the surface I like the least … reaching the final is good.”

Sinner has a worse record on clay than other surfaces and he has only won one trophy on the surface, at the 2022 Croatia Open.
