Demetrious Johnson is making his way to the UFC Hall of Fame, and he has revealed what he’s proud of the most.
Johnson is widely considered to be one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. He still holds the record for the most successful consecutive title defenses in UFC history. Some wonder if that record will ever be broken.
Above all of his accomplishments and record-breaking moments, it’s the consistency that “Mighty Mouse” cares about the most. He explained during a backstage interview at UFC Seattle (h/t MMAJunkie).
“Just my consistency (is the best part of my career),” Johnson said. “Making weight, passing every drug test, defending the belt. Just being consistent every single night I stepped inside that octagon. I think a lot of people don’t realize, I think it was said by Matt Hughes, but it’s easy to become a champion and stay a champion and be consistent.
“Now when you look at it, it’s maybe two, three, four consecutive title defenses. Obviously there’s more things about that because everyone wants to be a double champ or triple champ and all that stuff. But to be consistent every single night when I competed is probably one thing that’ll be close to my heart.”
Johnson said he’s also happy that he never had an ego throughout his historic run. He said that people who thought he was “boring” never fazed him because he simply did what he was supposed to do.
“Mighty Mouse” will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame class of 2026 this summer. UFC has yet to announce plans for International Fight Week, but White hasn’t ruled out a July show featuring Conor McGregor. That would mostly likely be the weekend of the Hall of Fame.
