TEMPO RISING – A GLOBAL COACHING MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
WITH THE TORONTO TEMPO

Masai Ujiri, Giants of Africa co-founder has joined the Toronto Tempo of the WNBA as a Principal Owner. For over 20 years, he has dedicated his career to empowering global communities through sport while championing women’s empowerment, equity, and opportunity at every level of leadership and development. As an owner of the Toronto Tempo, he brings that same vision to developing the next generation of leaders in women’s basketball in Canada and around the world.
Ujiri’s commitment to advancing women in sport comes to life through Tempo Rising, an innovative global coaching mentorship program in collaboration with the Tempo. Focused on developing the next generation of women’s basketball leaders, Tempo Rising is designed to support women-identifying and non-binary coaches at the entry-to-competitive level through 1:1 mentorship, hands-on learning, and access to a global coaching community.
The six-month program includes:
- Direct mentorship with experienced basketball leaders
- Grant support toward education and licensing
- Quarterly group sessions for learning and connection
- Ongoing coaching development opportunities
- A community impact project to wrap the program
Eligible applicants must be women-identifying or non-binary, currently coaching at the high school, club, or provincial level, and able to participate in virtual programming.
