Gianni Vazquez vs Alvin Welch Headlines Combate Global Mexico vs USA CardGianni Vazquez vs Alvin Welch Headlines COMBATE GLOBAL: Mexico vs USA in Burbank

Combate Global has announced a five-fight “Mexico vs. USA” card for its upcoming event on Saturday, April 11, live from EstrellaTV Studios.

The event will be headlined by a bantamweight showdown between Mexico’s Gianni Vazquez and American contender Alvin Welch.

Promotion CEO Campbell McLaren also confirmed that all COMBATE GLOBAL events for the remainder of 2026 will take place on Saturday nights, marking a new scheduling strategy for the organization.

Vazquez Looks to Rebound in Main Event

Vazquez (13-5-1), nicknamed “Kriptonita,” enters the main event as one of the promotion’s most experienced fighters.

The Mexico City native trains under respected MMA coach Colin Oyama and fights out of Irvine, California.

Earlier this year, Vazquez accepted a bout against Javid Basharat on just two days’ notice, ultimately dropping a unanimous decision that snapped his five-fight win streak.

Despite the setback, Vazquez still holds a unique achievement in the sport: he remains the only fighter to defeat top-ranked contender David Martinez, earning a split decision victory in COMBATE GLOBAL action in April 2021.

Welch Brings Finishing Ability and Boxing Experience

Welch (6-1), known as “The Anvil,” represents Spokane, Washington and trains under renowned coach Rick Little.

Little’s gym has produced several high-level fighters including former UFC champion Julianna Peña and Juliana Miller, winner of The Ultimate Fighter.

Welch’s most recent MMA victory came in November when he submitted Hector Lopez via rear-naked choke in the second round. Alongside his MMA career, Welch has also competed in professional boxing, adding another dimension to his striking arsenal.

Women’s Co-Main Event Features Vera vs Anguiano

The co-main event will showcase a 120-pound catchweight bout between Mexico City’s Nadia Vera and Garland, Texas striker Abril Anguiano.

Vera (6-5-1) represents the Bonebreakers fight team, which won the 2022 COMBATE GLOBAL team reality show competition and the $50,000 grand prize.

Despite beginning MMA training at age 24, Vera has since achieved a purple belt in Muay Thai and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Anguiano (7-5), meanwhile, is a striking-heavy fighter who also competes in professional boxing. Since turning pro in 2019, she has never suffered a knockout loss, making her durability a key factor in the matchup.

Additional Bouts Announced

Elsewhere on the card, undefeated prospect Joaquin Garcia will face Mexico’s Gerardo Bazaldua in a 175-pound catchweight contest.

Another women’s bout features Gabriela Aviña taking on Oregon’s Sophie Lang at strawweight.

Opening the event will be a 150-pound catchweight fight between two professional debut fighters, Erik Valerio and Amin Derakshan.

Broadcast Information

The event will air live in the United States in Spanish on EstrellaTV and on Samsung TV Plus at 10 p.m. ET / 9 p.m. CT.

English-language coverage will also be available on the COMBATE GLOBAL English channel on Samsung TV Plus, as well as worldwide via the promotion’s official YouTube channel.

Tickets for the event start at $30 and are available through Ticketon.
