Day 3 at the Tiriac Open brings four second-round clashes on the Bucharest clay, and the stakes are getting real. Some players arrive off the back of qualifying runs and first-round upsets, others with seedings and clay-court pedigree behind them — but on this surface, rankings only go so far. Form, movement, and the ability to construct long rallies will do most of the talking. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule. But who will advance?
ATP Bucharest Day 3 Predictions
Stefanos Sakellaridis vs Fabian Marozsan
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Sakellaridis has looked sharp coming through two qualifying matches and then upsetting Jan Choinski in straight sets to reach this stage. The young Greek moves well on clay and has shown good baseline consistency this season. Marozsan, the third seed, has a strong clay pedigree and knows how to mix up his shots and construct points on the slower surface. Even with a bit of a mixed season so far, he still brings that extra experience and variety that can trouble opponents in longer rallies. Sakellaridis will push him, but Marozsan’s comfort on clay should help him settle in and take control.
Prediction: Marozsan in 2
Daniel Altmaier vs Dino Prizmic
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Altmaier started the tournament with a straightforward straight-sets win, showing clean ball-striking and efficiency. He has built solid clay experience over the years and can dictate play when his serve and forehand are working together. Prizmic, meanwhile, has been in good form on clay this season with some impressive wins, and he backed that up by beating Nikoloz Basilashvili comfortably in the first round. The Croatian hits with real depth and aggression from the baseline, which suits these conditions perfectly. This should be a competitive battle with plenty of long rallies, but Prizmic’s current rhythm and clay-court momentum give him the advantage.
Prediction: Prizmic in 3
Daniel Merida vs Adrian Mannarino
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Merida has been impressive so far, dominating his qualifying matches and carrying that confidence into the main draw. As a young player who grew up on clay, he slides into the court naturally and can keep the ball deep with heavy topspin. Mannarino has had some up-and-down results this season and has never been at his best on this surface, where his flatter game can get exposed in long rallies. Merida’s consistency and movement should let him stay in control most of the time.
Prediction: Merida in 2
Sebastian Baez vs Titouan Droguet
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Baez is one of the stronger clay-court players in the draw and made that clear with a comfortable straight-sets win in the first round. He rarely gives away cheap points and excels at wearing opponents down with steady baseline play. Droguet showed fight by coming back to beat a veteran in three sets, proving he can compete on clay when he is on. Still, Baez’s experience and fitness on the surface should make the difference once the match settles in.
Prediction: Baez in 2
