Xander Zayas: I will take Jaron Ennis somewhere he’s never been

Xander Zayas says he will take Jaron Ennis into deep waters when they clash in Brooklyn in June.

Zayas (23-0, 13 KOs) will defend his WBO and WBA super welterweight belts against Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) at Barclays Center on June 27, live on DAZN pay-per-view.

‘Boots’ has already begun as a strong favourite with the bookmakers, however Zayas has vowed to hand the former unified welterweight titlist his first professional defeat.

“I’m going to rip his heart out,” the unbeaten 23-year-old told Ring Magazine.

“I’m going to take him to somewhere he’s never been.

“He’s going to feel uncomfortable. He’s going to be uncomfortable when it comes to fight night.

“It’s easy to face guys when you’re bigger than them, you’re more athletic than them.

“But when you’re facing a guy that is as big as you, that is as athletic as you, that is as composed, as smart as you, it’s a whole different story.

“Come June 27, he will see why this 23-year-old is a unified champion.”

After destroying Uisma Lima in one round on his 154 pound debut, Ennis was involved in drawn-out negotiations with Vergil Ortiz Jr, with their highly-anticipated bout ultimately falling through.

Zayas became unified champion in January, ripping away Abass Baraou’s WBA belt in a homecoming fight in Puerto Rico.

Ennis is undefeated in 35 professional bouts, but Zayas insists he’s seen several weaknesses in his rival.

“He’s never been uncomfortable,” he added.

“He’s always had it his own way.

“He’s always had fighters that put up a little bit of a fight and then they quit.

“He eats every straight punch.

“He eats every hook.

“There’s a lot of things I can take advantage of.

“I’m as athletic as he is, I’m as tall, I’m as big as he is.

“He’s just never faced anyone like me before.”
