The Green Bay Packers are going into the 2026 season looking to finally get over the hump. After three straight seasons of entering the playoffs as the seven seed and never making it past the divisional round, the fan base is getting anxious for something more.
Green Bay’s passing game will obviously need to perform like one of the best in the NFL if they want to make a run at the Super Bowl. As it turns out, one guy on their roster they plan on having around for quite some time.
The Green Bay Packers Plan To Extend At Least One Wide Receiver Very Soon
Packers’ general manager Brian Gutekunst made it clear that he wants wide receiver Christian Watson around for the long-term. He thinks an extension, sooner rather than later, would not only benefit the team, but also Watson himself:
“Certainly, we would like Christian around,” Gutekunst said on Monday from the league meetings. “He did an amazing job with his rehab process and was just a true pro.
He’s a unique individual as well and he did a lot of really good things for us the second half of the season. That’ll be something, I think, that would be good for both of us if we could do that. We’ll kind of see how that goes.”
While Watson’s career has been hampered by injuries, the 26-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance that excites the front office. Watson tore his ACL during the 2024 regular season finale which caused him to miss the first eight games of the this past season.
Still, he managed to finish with 611 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He was also a force in Green Bay’s wild card loss against the Chicago Bears recording three receptions and a touchdown.

Christian Watson’s Career To Date
Watson was drafted with the 34th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and he quickly showed how electric he can be. He stands 6’4″ tall and is listed at 204 pounds. Here is a look at his career stats thus far (2022-2025):
- 48 career games (45 starts)
- 133 receptions
- 2,264 receiving yards
- 20 receiving touchdowns
- 16 rushing attempts
- 117 rushing yards
- 2 rushing touchdowns
Like it has been stated his whole career, when health Watson has the ability to be one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. Will he get a chance to prove that he can be long-term in Green Bay? It looks like.
