Drew McIntyre is deep in a violent feud with Jacob Fatu heading into WrestleMania 42 — but his latest comments suggest there’s a bigger long-term plan in motion.
After weeks of chaos between the two, including a brutal parking lot brawl and an unsanctioned match now locked in for WrestleMania, McIntyre is already looking beyond the immediate fight. While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, he opened up about how this storyline is positioning his character going forward.
Reflecting on everything he’s been doing with Fatu, McIntyre made it clear he sees this feud as a key step in rebuilding his trajectory — especially after losing momentum earlier in the year: “After the stuff I’ve been doing with Jacob, I know McIntyre’s right back on track to where we need to be.”
That’s when he made it clear — this current version of Drew McIntyre is part of a longer plan that eventually leads to a full babyface run. At the same time, McIntyre made it clear he’s in no rush for that to happen: “Which I believe inevitably is going to lead to a big babyface run down the line — but I’m not trying to get there anytime soon.”
The comment stands out, especially given how aggressive and unhinged McIntyre has been in recent weeks. From personal insults to outright chaos, he’s leaned fully into a darker edge — something that makes the idea of a future babyface turn even more interesting.
With their WrestleMania match set to be unsanctioned, this feud is expected to push both men to the edge. And if McIntyre’s comments are any indication, it’s also laying the foundation for his eventual return to a fan-favorite role. For now though, McIntyre remains fully locked into his current mindset — even if he already sees a different version of himself waiting down the line.
