Jeanes edges top band at Graham Spicers Veterans 1*

The Graham Spicers Veterans 1* 2026 held in New Malden, Surrey, was a successful event. Players came from Staffordshire, Berkshire, Dorset, Sussex, Kent, Middlesex and Surrey.

Band 1

Matt Pernet (Surrey) started the day very well beating the top two seeds, Brian Jeanes (Staffordshire) and Rory Scott (Sussex) in five sets. However, he could not keep it going and lost two other matches. Brian came top of the Band having lost only one match. There was a three-way tie for second place, which Rupert Bole (Surrey) won on countback and this put Rory in third place.

Band 2

Third seed Michael Silver (Surrey) won all of his matches on the day to win the Band. Jin Luo (Surrey) did well to win four out of his five matches to get second place. Kinga Oryl came third on countback with Sarah Horsell (Surrey) and Stephen Davis (Surrey) just missing out.

Band 3

Choong Yong Lee (Surrey), the fourth seed, beat the top seed Tsz-Kit Chan (Surrey) and came first in Band 3 on countback, with Tsz-Kit second and Daniel Buckle third.

Band 4

Band 4 was the only band that went the way of the seedings, with Darren Reece (Middlesex) first, Chris Krishnan (Surrey) second and Joe Leone (Surrey) third.

Band 5

In Band 5 Rajesh Patel (Surrey), a third Division Thames Valley league player had a magnificent five-set victory over first Division Thames Valley player Jonathan Chernett (Surrey) but it was not enough to get him a top-three place. Carl Mingo (Surrey) beat Sam Choi (Surrey) to claim first place on countback with Sam second and Rennis Sathyadevan (Kent) third.

Jin Su Choi was the tournament organiser, with Chris Andrews the Referee and they had help from Graham Spicer Chairman Patrick Caunt and Pawel Meryn.
