Tiger Woods Says He’s Stepping Away to Seek Treatment After Florida Crash

In a brief social media statement, Tiger Woods said he is “stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health”.

Tiger Woods announced on social media this week that he is stepping away from golf for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on his health, asking for privacy for himself and his family.

In a brief but direct statement, Woods acknowledged the seriousness of his situation and said the decision was necessary to prioritise his wellbeing and work toward lasting recovery – language that immediately shifted attention from golf schedules and court dates to something more personal.

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” Woods’s statement read.

“I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritise my wellbeing and work toward lasting recovery.

“I’m committed to ‌taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger and more focused place, both personally and professionally.

“I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”

The statement followed a rollover car crash near Woods’ Florida home, after which he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Police reports noted signs of impairment at the scene, though breath tests returned no alcohol reading, and Woods later pleaded not guilty to the charges. No one was seriously injured in the incident.

For many fans, the episode stirred memories of past chapters in Woods’ life away from the course, with many wondering why someone with his wealth wouldn’t have a driver.

A serious DUI arrest in 2017, followed by treatment related to prescription medication use, and the devastating car crash in 2021 that nearly ended his career.

Before Woods’ latest crash, the 15-time major champion was rumoured to be teeing it up at the 2026 Masters Tournament. Woods is no longer listed in the field for the event at Augusta National that begins next week.
