Manchester City will aim to build on their Carabao Cup success when they face Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.

The Citizens lifted the League Cup courtesy of a comprehensive 2-0 victory over Premier League leaders Arsenal at Wembley last month, and Pep Guardiola will want to see his side progress into the last four in the other domestic cup competition.

While City were eliminated from the Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid at the last 16 stage, the Manchester outfit remain in contention to win the Premier League title, although Arsenal’s nine point lead at the top of the table may prove too much with just eight games remaining for Guardiola’s side.

While City look set to miss out on the top flight title for two consecutive years for the first time since Guardiola took charge, it appears that his future in Manchester remains uncertain.

As reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano, City are set to allow Guardiola make a decision on his future.

The 55-year-old took charge of City back in 2016 and has since won 19 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League, in 2023.

The former Barcelona boss is set to be out of contract at the end of next season, though, and it is not yet clear whether or not the ex-Spain international will remain in his role beyond this summer.

If Guardiola does depart, Romano claims that City are huge admirers of ex-Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, who worked as Guardiola’s assistant at City during their treble winning 2022/23 campaign.

Maresca has since managed both Leicester City and Chelsea, but is currently without a club following his departure from Stamford Bridge at the start of the year.
