Jack White started the new season with a bang, claiming three wickets on day one against Glamorgan at Cardiff, and spoke to the media at close.
The ex-Northamptonshire seamer struck 42 times in last season’s Rothesay County Championship and made the ideal start in his attempt to better that in 2026.
White’s new-ball three-for helped reduce Glamorgan to 28-4 before they recovered to close on 99-4, from 36 overs. Ben Coad struck once, while Fin Bean, Jonny Bairstow and Dom Bess all took fine catches.
Unfortunately, captain Bairstow left the field five-and-a-half overs before close nursing a right thumb injury, with Bean ending the day behind the stumps. But there was positivity in the Yorkshire dressing room this evening that he would be able to resume duties tomorrow.
“It went well,” said White, when asked to assess the shortened day. “The lads, there were some brilliant catches. Beany’s was unbelievable and Jonny’s brilliant.
“The lads were buzzing to get out there all day, and it was good fun.
“The clouds were down, which makes it better to bowl, and we’ll see how it gets on.
“If you bowl in the right areas, there will always be something for you. But their two guys batted well. We’ll just come back in the morning and try and go again.”
White came into this season having just signed a two-year contract extension through until the end of 2028.
And he found rhythm immediately today. He added: “I thought Coady looked really good as well. He got one but could easily have had a couple more.
“I absolutely loved playing for the club last year, and I’ve always wanted to play for Yorkshire.
“I hope to have another good year.”
