Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic will miss the rest of the regular season after suffering a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, the team announced Friday following an MRI.

The injury occurred during Thursday’s loss to the Thunder, when Doncic appeared to hurt his hamstring on a drive and later struggled to move before being taken out.

He had shown signs of discomfort earlier in the game but tried to play through it before eventually exiting.

“We checked him out,” head coach JJ Redick said. “He got work done. He was cleared. I mean, again, we’re not going to put a player at risk. Those things happen.”

Doncic had recently dealt with a similar hamstring issue earlier this season and had just returned to form, including a 42-point game earlier in the week.

Teammates reacted to the injury with concern.

“You wish for the best,” Austin Reaves said. “Obviously, you don’t want to see anybody get hurt. But you hold on to some faith for the best news possible.”

“At this point, at this juncture of the season, it’s the last thing you want to see,” LeBron James added. “Anybody on our team, but when you have an MVP candidate on your team, the last thing you want to see is somebody go down with a hamstring injury.”
