Shabbir Ahmed Resigns as Regional Coach Over Alleged Political Interference

Shabbir Ahmed, a former fast bowler, resigned from his position as a regional coach with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), citing the appalling conditions at the local level.

Shabbir announced his resignation as the head coach of the Dera Ghazi Khan area, citing his growing frustration with the pervasive political meddling, nepotism, and favoritism in district and regional cricket issues.

“How can Pakistan cricket improve when there is no merit in selection of players at regional level and there is so much interference and nepotism and favouritism by cricket officials,” he questioned.

Shabbir stated that he wanted to develop and promote the game and players at the district and regional levels, which is why he took the job as head coach in Dera Ghazi Khan.

“Unfortunately, I find everything I’ve gone through to be extremely annoying. In the end, a player who is a strong talent and works hard all year is passed over in favor of a guy who uses political ties and other means to gain admission,” he remarked.

The fast bowler claimed that Pakistani cricket was at its lowest point and that he was not shocked by Pakistan’s 0–2 loss to Bangladesh.

“Even if coaches who are sincere want to do something they are helpless in the existing system,” Shabbir remarked.
