Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fans received encouraging news as Australian all-rounder Cameron Green resumed bowling in the nets at Eden Gardens. During Saturday’s practice session, Green bowled for around three overs, signalling steady progress in his recovery. While it may be too soon to confirm whether he will be fit to bowl in the upcoming clash against Punjab Kings on Monday, his return to bowling marks a positive step towards full-match readiness.

Earlier, Cricket Australia (CA) had indicated that Green would require approximately 10 to 12 days to rebuild his bowling workload. As a result, KKR had been using him purely as a batter in the initial matches of IPL 2026. His performances with the bat, however, have been modest so far. In the opening match against Mumbai Indians, he managed 18 runs off 10 balls, while in the following game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens, he was dismissed for just two runs after facing two deliveries, falling victim to a run-out.

Before the team travelled to Mumbai for the opening fixture, Green had bowled only a couple of deliveries during practice at Eden, making this latest development even more significant. His gradual return to bowling is expected to provide a much-needed boost to KKR’s relatively inexperienced pace attack, which has been under pressure in the early stages of the tournament.

Meanwhile, there remains uncertainty surrounding the arrival of Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who is yet to receive the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). However, there is optimism that he could join the squad in Kolkata ahead of their match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 9, which would further strengthen the team’s bowling resources.

Three-time champions KKR are yet to get any points on the board following successive defeats against Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
