The NXT Championship has changed hands with Tony D’Angelo winning the title in a Fatal 4-Way match at NXT Stand & Deliver against Joe Hendry, Ricky Saints, and Ethan Page.
How did this go down tonight, what led to this, and what could be on the horizon? Let’s break it all down!
What Went Down:
When Tony D’Angelo returned to NXT after taking several months off, he said it was for two reasons. The first was to take down DarkState, which he recently accomplished at NXT Vengeance Day. The second was to win the NXT Championship, which was the only title he has yet to win on the brand, having previously reigned as North American champion, Heritage Cup champion, and NXT tag team champion.
After having attacked Hendry as well, he joined the lineup to challenge for the title as well as Ricky Saints and Ethan Page, who had won a tag team match together over Hendry and Myles Borne.
Here in St. Louis, D’Angelo was able to score the victory with a pinfall over Hendry, which was as definitive as the NXT Women’s Championship match outcome from earlier with Jacy Jayne dropping the title to Lola Vice in their Triple Threat match, likely signaling that NXT is looking at this as a true passing of the torch (or more so, handing over the keys to the kingdom).

Personal Reactions & What Happens Next?:
I was thinking that Saints would win the title here and spawn off a feud with D’Angelo, with Tony D eventually winning the belt at another show down the line, but to do that here instead is perfectly reasonable, too. I’m still a little surprised that it will have gone from a babyface to another babyface, but this could also potentially signal Hendry moving up to the main roster. Saints and Page could very well do that, too, at any given moment. D’Angelo strikes me as a guy that will benefit far more if he has this title reign than for the other three to continue what they’ve already accomplished, so I’m down for this title change. He’s earned it.
There isn’t a go-to person in my head about being the next in line after D’Angelo, but maybe a guy like Keanu Carver can be built up to that point, or Jackson Drake could be another option. I like not knowing the obvious next steps.
