Liverpool plotting move to sign Italian defender | Shoot

Liverpool suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday. 

Erling Haaland netted a hat-trick and Antoine Semenyo was also on the scoresheet at The Etihad, with Mohamed Salah missing a second-half penalty in his first match since it was announced that he will leave Anfield this summer.

Slot’s side now turn their attention to a trip to France to face Paris Saint-Germain in the last eight of the Champions League, before returning to Premier League action with a game against Fulham on Saturday.

In the meantime, it has emerged that the reigning Premier League champions are eyeing a move to sign a Serie A defender this summer.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are preparing a bid to sign full-back Marco Palestra during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The report claims that the 21-year-old – who is an Atalanta player but is currently on loan at Cagliari – has emerged as a target for the Reds as they search for a new right-back.

It is claimed that Liverpool view Palestra as a player that could bolster Sl0t’s squad in the short-term, but also as someone capable of being a long-term replacement at right-back.

The Italian joined Atalanta as a youngster and has made 16 appearances for the Bergamo outfit at senior level.

He joined Cagliari on loan last summer and has impressed so far this term, featuring 30 times across all competitions so far.

The full-back’s impressive form earned him his senior international debut for the Azzurri last month, during Italy’s 2-0 win over Northern Ireland in the World Cup play-offs.

Fell0w Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested in the defender, although it is Liverpool who are already making ‘serious preparations’, with a deal likely to cost somewhere in the region of £40 million.
