Boxing News Today: Dubois Blasts ‘Drug Cheat’ Baumgardner, Wardley Welcomes Wilder fight, & Jake Paul Wants Diaz in MMA

Caroline Dubois said she overcame illness on the day of the fight to defeat Terri Harper in their WBC and WBO lightweight world championship unification fight Sunday night, April 5, at Kensington’s Olympia in London, England.

The lopsided decision win was the most meaningful of Dubois’s career, as she advances her record to 13 wins (5 KOs), unbeaten, and a draw, with barely any damage taken having scored a knockdown of her own in the sixth.

Later, she dismissed a 135-pound bout against Irish icon Katie Taylor, saying she’s only interested in “the best verses the best,” and critics would give her little credit for beating an “over-the-hill” opponent. “What would I get from that? A paycheck, and a name, but nothing else. If I fight a young, hungry, Alycia [Baumgardner] or [Elif Nur] Turhan — these dangerous girls. I’d get more from that.”

Baumgardner is full of confidence regarding a possible prizefight with Baumgardner.

“If given the opportunity, I’d run through Alycia.”

“The fight I’m interested in is Alycia ‘The Bomb’ Baumgardner and I want to truly see who is the best. That’s the fight I want. There’s no need to waste time. The best versus the best. Five pounds difference but she’s older than me and more experienced than me. Let’s see. That’s the fight I want.”

Dubois, though, doubts it will materialize. “I know she will try and run a mile from this fight … if she says I need to do more, then I’ll have another unification. I’ll go after [Turhan].”

Responding to Baumgardner, on X, clowning Caroline’s performance against Harper, a mutual opponent ‘The Bonb’ beat by knockout, Dubois clapped back: “She’s a drug cheat.”

She added: “Look at Alycia post failing that drug, and pre-failing. She was explosive, she was powerful, and she was dangerous. She failed her drug test and hasn’t looked the same since.”

Fabio Wardley Welcomes Deontay Wilder Fight

“I would [fight Wilder],” he told Ring Magazine after the American’s thumping victory over Derek Chisora in England. “My priority is Daniel Dubois, beyond that is Oleksandr Usyk, but target No.3 would be Deontay Wilder.”

Jake Paul Wants Nate Diaz in MMA

Elsewhere, Jake Paul told Theo Von his next fight might not even be in the boxing ring but in an MMA environment, calling Nate Diaz out for a tussle.
