Bhuvneshwar Kumar etched his name into IPL history on Monday night, becoming the first fast bowler to reach 200 wickets in the tournament.
The milestone came during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s clash against Chennai Super Kings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Bhuvneshwar achieved the landmark by dismissing Ayush Mhatre, who was caught safely by RCB captain Rajat Patidar.
“Bhuvneshwar Kumar got the wicket of Ayush Mhatre for his 200th scalp, as RCB skipper Rajat Patidar completed a simple catch.”
This moment made him only the second bowler in IPL history to cross 200 wickets, joining Yuzvendra Chahal.
A Landmark Built Over Years
Bhuvneshwar reached the milestone in 191 IPL matches, showing his consistency over the years.
He made his name with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he won back-to-back Purple Caps in 2016 and 2017.
His ability to swing the ball early and bowl tight overs at the death has made him one of the most reliable pacers in IPL history.
Among the all-time wicket-takers, Chahal leads with 224 wickets, followed by Bhuvneshwar at 200. Names like Sunil Narine, Piyush Chawla, and Ravichandran Ashwin are close behind.
Dominance in a One-Sided Match
The milestone came in a match that was already tilting heavily in RCB’s favour.
RCB posted a huge 250/3 in their 20 overs, powered by a blazing 70 not out from Tim David and a steady 48 not out from Patidar. Devdutt Padikkal added a solid fifty at the top.
In reply, CSK were struggling at 47/3 when Bhuvneshwar struck his historic wicket, putting RCB firmly in control of the game.
The night belonged to Bhuvneshwar, who not only reached a rare milestone but also proved that experience still wins matches in the IPL.
