Bats pummel 5 homers & 17 hits in a blowout for their 4th straight win – Dodgers Digest

The 2025 World Series rematch kicked off today, and after the 1st inning it seemed like it might be another back-and-forth affair. However, the Dodgers just continued an unending onslaught of the Blue Jays, led by Dalton Rushing’s career day, as they won a 14-2 blowout to start the series.

======

The Dodgers lineup once again got off to a quick start for once today, this time against Max Scherzer in the 1st. After a Kyle Tucker walk, it was Teoscar Hernandez with his second homer of the season to make it 2-0 Dodgers just like that.

But after Scherzer gave up just a two-out single in the 2nd, he ended up exiting the game. His velocity was down in the game, which is never a good sign.

Regardless, the Blue Jays came right back against Justin Wrobleski with a two-out rally in the 1st, but it was a lead-off walk that scored, as they tend to do. He was on the verge of taking no damage thanks to two flyouts, including a nice play by Kyle Tucker…

…but a solid single to put a pair on was followed by Ernie Clement blooping a single to center to plate a run and make it 2-1 Dodgers.

Wrobo then issued a walk that loaded the bases, and he was thus a pitch away from giving away the early lead, but he got a groundout to escape disaster.

That wasn’t an ideal start, but Wrobo rebounded from there. He got a 10-pitch 2nd, then an 11-pitch 3rd despite a walk thanks to a double play. In the 4th, he allowed just a runner on a passed ball after a strikeout, and worked around a walk in the 5th thanks to a pair of bare-hand defensive plays — one was his own and the other was Alex Freeland.

The Dodgers needed him to get length in a spot start and he did exactly that: 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 2 K, 78 Pitches.

As mentioned, Scherzer exited the game, and that led to Josh Fleming entering for the Blue Jays in the 3rd. While he got Shohei Ohtani to hit a nubber in front of the plate, he raced for an infield single and Fleming threw wild to allow him to reach second. After Tucker moved him over on a groundout, Freddie Freeman said to hell with small ball and jolted his third homer to right for a 4-1 lead.

They started to rally again in the 4th after Dalton Rushing was hit by a pitch, as Hyeseong Kim walked after failing to bunt, Ohtani then hit a deep flyball that both runners advanced on, and Tucker hit a towering flyball for a sac fly to make it 5-1.

The Dodgers got another in the 5th, as Max Muncy reached on an infield single, Andy Pages followed with a single to corner the runners, and then Alex Freeland hit it hard but grounded into a double play that scored a run for a 6-1 Dodgers lead.

The 6th then started a rotation of the front-end of the Jays pen arms, and Ohtani destroyed his third homer of the year to push the lead to 7-1.

Tucker and Teoscar reached on walks and with two outs they pulled off a double steal, then they both scored on a Pages double to put the lead at 9-1.

It was already a laugher at that point, but the 7th really drove that point home. Dalton Rushing hit the first pitch of the inning for his second homer of the year to make it double digits.

Hyeseong Kim then reached on an infield single, and Tucker softly singled with one out to put a pair on. Freddie followed with a double off the wall to plate Kim, and then Teoscar doubled into the right-center gap to plate Tucker and Freeman. 13-1.

Rushing continued his career day in the 8th, destroying his second homer of the game and third of the year to make it 14-1.

Catcher Tyler Heineman got the 9th in 1-2-3 fashion, because of course he did.

Taking over with a healthy lead in the 6th was the Dodgers pen, and Will Klein was first to enter. He gave up a lead-off single, but then got three outs in a row, avoiding damage thanks to Freeland’s glove.

Klein continued in the 7th, giving up an infield single to start before getting help from a great Kim defensive play and then striking out the next two.

The 8th was given to Edgardo Henriquez, who cruised through an 11-pitch inning that included a pair of strikeouts.

To finish things off, it amusingly was Miguel Rojas in the 9th, but he gave up a double, walk, and then hit a batter to load things up. A groundout from Andres Gimenez plated a run, but a pop foul got the second out and a groundout ended the game.

Nice.

8-2, seems good.

Same teams, same place, and same time of 1:07 PM HT/4:07 PM PT/7:07 PM ET tomorrow, but this time on TBS. It’ll be Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who I’m sure Blue Jays fans have forgotten by now, up against Kevin Gausman.
