As the trade deadline approached, the Milwaukee Bucks found themselves at the center of widespread league attention, with multiple teams exploring the possibility of acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo, via Shams Charania of ESPN.
The front office engaged in serious discussions, weighing both short-term competitiveness and long-term flexibility.
Among the offers Milwaukee considered, Miami’s proposal stood out. The package, built around Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, and multiple draft picks, received strong internal consideration.
In fact, the Bucks came close to finalizing a deal on February 4 before ownership ultimately decided to keep Antetokounmpo and revisit trade possibilities in the offseason.
Not all discussions progressed smoothly. Some rival executives began to question Milwaukee’s approach after experiencing delays in communication.
Others were put off by the steep asking prices, which reportedly included players such as Evan Mobley from Cleveland and VJ Edgecombe from Philadelphia, along with additional assets.
As uncertainty grew, teams like the Timberwolves and Warriors shifted their attention elsewhere, concluding that Milwaukee was unlikely to move Antetokounmpo at the deadline.
Looking ahead, Antetokounmpo has one guaranteed year remaining on his contract, along with a player option in 2027.
If he stays with the Bucks, he will be eligible for a four-year, $275 million extension starting October 1. If traded, he could instead sign a six-year extension with a new team after six months.
The situation remains unresolved, but Milwaukee’s direction will become clearer as the offseason approaches.
