Juventus secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Genoa, driven by two early goals and a commanding performance at the Allianz Stadium.
Juventus, fifth in Serie A, aimed to strengthen their European qualification push. Genoa, currently 14th, sought to spring a surprise. The visitors had won two and lost three of their last five league matches.
The home side wasted no time. In the fourth minute, defender Bremer powerfully headed home a Lloyd Kelly assist, giving Juventus an early lead.
Juventus maintained intense pressure. Weston McKennie then doubled the advantage in the 17th minute, drilling his shot past the Genoa goalkeeper from a precise Francisco Conceição pass.
The first half saw several bookings, with Manuel Locatelli (15′) and McKennie (26′) receiving yellow cards for Juventus. Despite the fouls, Juventus controlled 62% possession.
Juventus held a comfortable two-goal lead at the break, leaving Genoa with much to ponder.
The second half saw Mattia Perin replace Michele Di Gregorio in Juventus’s goal. Di Gregorio had made three important saves in the first half.
Genoa tried to spark a comeback with substitutions, bringing on Junior Messias (52′), Ruslan Malinovskyi (66′), and Lorenzo Colombo (66′). Morten Frendrup was booked for Genoa in the 51st minute.
The visitors’ best chance came in the 75th minute when a penalty was awarded. Albert Martin stepped up, but his effort was unfortunately missed, denying Genoa a vital goal.
Juventus defender Bremer and midfielder Khéphren Thuram also received yellow cards (72′, 78′). The home side expertly managed the remaining minutes to secure their victory.
Juventus registered 16 total shots, with five on target, and an expected goals (xG) of 2.2. Genoa managed 12 shots, three on target, and an xG of 1.37, reflecting the host’s clear dominance.
This vital win strengthens Juventus’s grip on a European spot as the Serie A season nears its conclusion. Genoa will reflect on a missed penalty that could have changed the game.
